Well when I started this tribe I had referred to the fact that we were either heading to a new dark ages or a new renaissance.
It turns out that one of the major points of this election was fear. Fear of differences and of the unknown. Yes I can understand peoples fears about terrorism. But the fact that so many states voted for constitutional amendments that basically ban gay rights scares me. This shows that people are not evolving as fast as they should. What will happen with art and science? Stem Cells.
So what do you think? Will the next 100 years be dark?

Re: New Dark Ages
Mon, November 15, 2004 - 1:45 PMI think that America is leading the West into a dark age. Whether another nation picks up the torch I couldn't say. I've read that China is gunning for the number one spot.
I would definitley say that the West is on its way down, though.

Wed, February 16, 2005 - 5:02 AMHi Andy,
I think you're absolutly right! The next 100 years will be dark!!
Instead of moving forward into acceptance and tolerance we are going backwards to old age religious matters and prejudice. I'm sorry to say that when I hear and see your President Bush, I can see a mid age witch hunter, afraid of every thing and any one different (from muslim to homosexuals).
I think the fear that contributed to electing President Bush was manipulated ans created by him like Church use to do in the medieval ages. Isn't it suprising that just before the elections came, Hussama Bin Laden's video was on all the news? Anyway, what's done is done...
All I have to say is please do not let him destroy in only 8 years what so many people fought for for so long...
Peace.

Re: New Dark Ages
Tue, February 22, 2005 - 1:38 PMUnfortunately the longer it goes on the less it looks like the Deomocratic Party has any idea of how to counter the reactionary thinking and fear that put him in there. It is definitely not going to help to have Howard Dean as the Chairman of the DNC. I tend to think of myself as a left leaning Libertarian so I would prefer a more centrist approach instead of heading further to the left. The only thing that is going to save us is to put as much money into education as possible and that ain't going to happen with this guy in office. We need educational programs for adults as well. If not then no minds will ever open. My whole idea behind this tribe is to eventually create small interconnected organizations that will foster artistic activities and at the same time teach business and money management skills. Until we get more people with those skills the creative community will not stand a chance against the right wingers.
It's also funny to me how people claim that this nation was founded upon the basis of Christianity. Many of the founding fathers, including Franklin and Jefferson were not Christians. They were Deists, meaning that they believed in a higher power but not in a specific religious dogma. These were incredibly imaginative people. Just look at the Constitution. It was designed so that it could be amended. They didn't think that they knew everything. They kne that there would be change. Unfortunately most of the right wing that is running things prefers to have a simple set of rules that they know and follow regardless of whether or not there is any logic behind them.
Peace.
Andy
